ECAN has let us know that there is an update to the policy around drivers waiting. It is now that:

“The driver can wait up to 5 minutes in the middle of your trip if you need to leave the vehicle to quickly pick something up. If you will be longer than 5 minutes, you must not ask the driver to wait and will instead need to book a new trip. Your TM card may be cancelled if you fail to adhere to this requirement”

There is a short amnesty but from 1 May this can lead to your card being cancelled.
