The list below is designed to be a useful source for Asian migrants, residents and students. It has been compiled by the Women’s Centre Asian support team. To someone in trouble it could be a ‘lifeline’.
WOMEN’S CENTRE, Level 1, 573-579 Colombo Street, 371 7414. The times for our Asian Women’s Drop-in are Fridays 10am to 2pm. Walk in or telephone. Asian workers, Japanese, Chinese, English speaking workers on a Friday for information, support and referrals on all women’s issues. The Centre is open for all women Mondays to Fridays 10am to 2pm.
PROBLEM GAMBLING FOUNDATION, 15 Stanley St, Sydenham, 379 2824, Monday to Friday, 9am – 5pm. Asian counsellor offers free, confidential service in Mandarin, Cantonese, English. Also, the free NATIONWIDE 0800 862 342 help-line offers Mandarin, Cantonese, Korean, English.
FAMILY PLANNING ASSOCIATION, 9 Washington Way, 379 0514, Monday to Friday, 8am -8pm. Emergency contraception, sexual health, contraception, pregnancy test, cervical smear test. Contraception information pamphlets are available in Chinese, Korean, Japanese. Fees for clinic, prescription, medication. No interpreter on premises but has Language Line if required.
WALTHAM COMMUNITY COTTAGE, 201 Hastings Street East, 942 2173, Thursday, 9am -12pm. Chinese volunteer on Thursday mornings offers support, Mandarin, Cantonese, Hokien. The Cottage is open in general Monday to Thursday, 9am – 3pm.

OFFICE OF ETHNIC AFFAIRS LANGUAGE LINE , Monday to Friday, 10am – 6pm. Telephone interpreter service for Government agencies, in various languages. You can ask for this service when dealing with Work and Income, NZ Immigration, Housing NZ, Internal Affairs, ACC and Police. CHRISTCHURCH CITIZENS ADVICE BUREAU. Ph 0800 656 656.
