A free, 24 hour, seven day, telephone healthline.
The healthline has been set up to improve access to health and disability services. The call centre is staffed by registered nurses. They do not diagnose or treat health problems over the ‘phone but assess the situation by asking a series of questions and utilising a sophisticated computer programme. The nurses then advise on the best course of action. (i.e. call an ambulance, see your doctor, etc.) Also gives out general information on a variety of health concerns.
Examples;
-Feeling unwell and not sure if you need to see a doctor.
-Needing some urgent advice about a family member or a friend who is sick.
-On holiday and want to know where the nearest doctor of pharmacy is.
