The banking ombudsman is a free, external and independent process to help people sort out their unresolved problems with banks. Anyone can use the scheme, including groups of people such as partnerships, clubs and companies, so long as the complaint is against one of the following banks:
ANZ Banking Group (Including postbank)
ASB Bank
Bank of NZ
Citibank New Zealand
HSBC New Zealand
Kiwibank
The National Bank of New Zealand Ltd (including Countrywide)
Rabobank NZ Limited
SBS Bank
TSB Bank Limited
Westpac
Most subsidiary companies of the above banks are also in the scheme.
The banking ombudsman will investigate your complaint and make a decision on it in due course. It must be fair to both sides, abide by the law and have regard to good banking practice. If they find nothing wrong they will advise you. There is no charge for the service
